Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
Main purpose of job:
To promote and deliver UK priorities in Guinea including increasing UK investment and commercial interest in Guinea, benefiting both countries and supporting Guinea’s long-term economic development. Leading on Embassy International Programme projects and Chevening scholarship programme. Provide insight through economic and political analysis. Line managing a team of two.
Roles and responsibilities:
Economic and political analysis and reporting
Analysis and reporting of economic and political developments in Guinea and impact on the UK.
International Programme project management
Lead on Embassy International Programme projects including the call for bids, selection of bids, monitoring and evaluating in line with International Programme policy including final reports and undertaking field visits. Lead on Embassy Chevening Scholarship Programme and other Embassy project opportunities.
Support to UK commercial interests
Provide updates and briefing for UK companies on opportunities and developments in Guinea. Support and advise British companies operating in Guinea. Lobby the Government of Guinea and key stakeholders on behalf of the UK government and UK companies. Liaise with stakeholders to facilitate trade missions and meetings. Review and update gov.uk Overseas Business Risk Report. Organise quarterly British Business Group receptions.
Networking
Build and maintain a strong network of contacts including with the international donor community as well as civil society organisations and government of Guinea to strengthen co-ordination and complementarity of UK activities.
Support to all other Embassy work
As needed, including Communications and Public Affairs, Protocol, Events and Crisis Management.
Representation of the UK
Represent the Embassy at economic meetings and other events both with Government institutions and International Financial Institutions. Representation in the absence of the Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission.
Management of staff
Line manage two colleagues: the Protocol and Political Officer and the Communication and Events Manager.
Resources managed (staff and expenditure):
The International Programme Fund. Line Management of one CBS AO and one CBS EO
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- University Bachelors Degree
- 3 years professional experience
- Previous staff management
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point
- Numerical and Budget Management Abilities
- Fluent written, oral and reading in English and French
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding national and local political / economic climate
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- University Bachelors or Masters Degree in Economics, Business Studies or related discipline.
- Proven analysis and reporting skills
- Previous experience of working in an international organisation / Embassy
