SUMMARY | Lead the strategy and plan for Health Safety Environment and Community (HSEC) on the Rio Tinto Simandou Transhipment Shuttle Vessel (TSV) program. The candidate will be responsible to adapt Rio Tinto’s comprehensive HSE framework for Chinese shipyard environments, TSV design, and Operations in Guinea. |
QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION/ TECHNICAL | - Professionally trained Health and Safety specialist.
- Marine HSE knowledge a must
- Mining and conveyors HSE knowledge an asset

EXPERIENCE LEVEL | - 5-10 years in HSE or peripheral domains.

KEY COMPETENCIES | - High level of diligence in reviewing Rio Tinto’s requirements.
- Ability to transpose RT’s HSE intents into a framework suitable for the Simandou TSV program.
- High level of common sense, judgment, and experience to produce the right HSE standards for the project.
- Effective English communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ethical and accountable.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES | - The project responsibilities will vary based on the project phases 1) FEEP – design and contracting, 2) EPC – vessel construction in China, 3) Operations in Guinea. The position is to fulfill the immediate need for FEEP but may be extended to support EPC (2024) and Operations (2026). The below responsibilities are for the FEEP phase.
- Review and thoroughly understand Rio Tinto’s HSEC requirements (aka Appendix C).
- Adapt the HSE requirements to marine operations and shipyard construction and determine the management framework required.
- Promote Australian conveyor guarding standards suitability to Rio Tinto and manage gaps that could arise from land-based mining standards.
- Produce and maintain and HSE Management Plan for the project.
- Primary interface with Rio Tinto HSE stakeholders.
- Audit, track, and record HSE performance of the FEEP team, including CSL and its subcontractors.
- Accomplish other duties as assigned.

TRAVEL | - Will vary per project phase. Light travel (10%) foreseen until April 2024.
